This Privacy Policy explains how Rainy ("We", "Us", or "Our") collects, uses, and shares information when You use the Rainy mobile app ("the App").
By using the App, You agree to this Privacy Policy. If You do not agree, please do not use the App.
Interpretation and Definitions
- You means the person using the App.
- App means Rainy.
- Personal Data means information that relates to an identifiable person.
- Usage Data means information collected automatically when You use the App.
Information We Collect
Information You provide when using the App
- Location You choose: place name, address text, and approximate coordinates used to show weather and related features.
- Indian State or Union Territory (UT) You select in Settings (or that We infer from Your chosen address). This is based on Your selection, not continuous location tracking of Your device.
- App preferences You set, such as units (metric or imperial).
Information You provide when You contact Us
When You contact Us through the Contact Us page, We receive the information You choose to submit, such as Your name, email address, and message. We use this only to read and respond to Your enquiry.
Information collected automatically
- How You use the App: general interaction with features and content, including session and usage patterns in aggregate form.
- Device and technical information: such as device type, operating system, app version, and language.
- Network-related information: such as IP address, which may be collected by Us or by services We use to run the App.
Advertising-related information
The App shows advertisements through Google’s advertising services. Google may collect information related to ads, including an advertising identifier on Your device where permitted, to show and measure ads. Google’s own privacy policy applies to that processing.
How We Use Your Information
We use information to:
- Provide weather, maps, and other App features for Your chosen location and state/UT.
- Save Your settings and recent locations on Your device.
- Operate, maintain, and improve the App.
- Understand aggregated app usage to improve Rainy. We do not use this to build mailing lists or sell personal data.
- Show advertisements in the App.
- Respond to messages You send through Contact Us.
- Protect the App against misuse, errors, and security issues.
- Comply with law where required.
Technical Services
We use Google Firebase to run core parts of the App, including analytics in aggregated or statistical form. Depending on how You use Rainy, these services may process device, usage, or diagnostic information:
- Firebase Analytics — how features and screens are used.
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash and stability reports to help fix errors.
- Firebase Authentication — a pseudonymous sign-in so the App can call Our backend securely. This creates an anonymous identifier on Our servers; We do not ask for Your name, email, or phone to use the App.
- Firebase hosting and cloud functions — weather, place search, and related API requests are handled on Our backend.
Firebase processes data under Google’s privacy policies.
Third-Party Services and Websites
We rely on third parties to help run the App, including:
- Google and other service providers for analytics, advertising, location search, and weather data.
- Other websites and services that open inside the App or in Your browser when You follow a link.
Those third parties process information under their own privacy policies. We do not control how they collect or use data on their sites. We encourage You to read their policies when You leave Rainy or open their content.
How We Store and Retain Information
- Some information (such as Your saved location, state/UT, and preferences) is stored on Your device until You change it, clear stored App data, or uninstall the App.
- Some information is sent to Our service providers to fetch weather, search places, show ads, and run analytics. It is kept only as long as needed for those purposes or as required by law.
- When You use weather or place search, Our backend may briefly link Your anonymous app account to usage information to keep the service fair and prevent abuse. We do not use this to identify You by name or to build a lasting profile of You. These server records are removed automatically within a short period.
- Weather and place results may be cached on Our servers by location so We can serve other users efficiently. That shared cache is not a personal account record.
- Messages sent through Contact Us are kept only as long as needed to handle Your request and for reasonable record-keeping.
International Users
Rainy is available in many countries. Your information may be processed in India or in other countries where Our service providers operate. We take reasonable steps to protect information handled on Our behalf.
Sharing of Information
We may share information:
- With service providers who help Us run the App (analytics, ads, hosting, weather and place services), subject to confidentiality and this Policy.
- If required by law, court order, or government request.
- To protect the rights, safety, and security of Rainy, Our users, or the public.
- In connection with a merger, sale, or transfer of Our business (users will be informed where required by law).
We do not sell Your personal information to third parties for their own marketing.
Your Choices
- You can change Your location, state/UT, and units in the App Settings.
- You can limit ad personalisation through Your device’s advertising settings (where available on Your device).
- You can uninstall the App or clear its data in Your device settings to remove information stored on Your device.
- For questions, privacy requests, or deletion of messages You sent through Contact Us, use the Contact Us page.
Children’s Privacy
Rainy is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from anyone under 18.
We do not use Personal Data to show targeted advertising to children, and We do not track or profile children for behavioural advertising.
If You are under 18, please use the App only with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian.
If We learn that We have collected Personal Data from a child under 18 without appropriate authority, We will take steps to delete that information. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided Us Personal Data, please contact Us through the Contact Us page. Where required by law, We will obtain verifiable parental or guardian consent before continuing to process that child’s Personal Data.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Links to Other Websites
The App may show or link to websites We do not operate. Their privacy practices are their own. Please review their policies before sharing information with them.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the App and on this page. The date of the latest version may be shown at the top when We add one. Continued use of the App after changes means You accept the updated Policy.
